All-natural facial mask recipes for oily skin
Dry or oily skin can both lead to some major skin complications for your face. Both of them can lead to blemishes and blackheads forming, and both of them can lead to patchy spots of skin that are not appealing. Therefore, I’ve derived a few masks here that you can use for oily or dry skin. Just look for Oily or Dry in the title to be sure you’re using it for the right skin type.
If you’re not sure if you have oily skin, there are a few at-home tests you can use in order to tell. First, you’ll want to wash off your face and pat it dry with a towel. Next, wait an hour, and then take a napkin and press it to your forehead, nose, or chin area. If it comes away with oil blots, you have oily skin.
Most of those who expect they have oily skin actually have combination skin, which is patches of oily skin and patches of either normal or dry skin. Therefore, sometimes it’s best to only apply a facial mask or scrub to areas that are oily, such as the t-zone or the forehead, nose, and chin areas.
If you wash your face and an hour later it’s bone dry and looks flaky, then you have dry skin. Dry skin can actually lead to acne breakouts, too because it’s still damaging your skin and making it prone to infections from bacteria. Therefore, having acne will not tell you whether or not you have oily or dry skin.
Commonly, women who have breakouts will wash their faces with harsh chemicals and use harsh astringents; thus, drying out their skin even more and causing their skin to become oily. The skin is an organ, and like any other organ in the body, it will attempt to right the balance it’s trying to achieve. Therefore, using an all-natural, non-harsh alternative is best. Here are some facial masks for oily or dry skin.
1 – Banana Face Mask for Oily Skin
Bananas work best for normal to oily skin as they are a natural astringent and will pull the oil from the skin, as well as close up the pores on the skin in order to make it look tighter and younger.
Ingredients
- 1 Banana
- 1 Tbsp. Honey
- 1 Orange or Lemon
Directions
1. Mash the banana and add the honey to it. You can also blend it together in a blender or a food processor for a nice, creamy mask.
2. Mix in a few drops of lemon or orange juice from a fresh piece of fruit and apply the mask to your skin.
3. Leave it on for fifteen minutes and then rinse with an absorbent, cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.
4. Follow with a moisturizer that’s free of oils and made for facial skin as facial skin is very sensitive.
Note: You can freeze bananas in the freezer if you’re going to use them for cosmetic purposes for later use. So if you buy a bunch and would prefer not to eat them, go ahead and freeze them when they’re ripe!
2 – Bentonite Clay Face Mask for Oily Skin
Bentonite is also known as green clay and is an excellent facial mask additive for greasy or oily skin. The clay acts as an astringent and also closes up the pores in order to keep dirt from getting inside.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. Green Clay or Bentonite Clay
- 1 tsp. Apricot Kernel Oil
- 3 Drops of Palmarosa Essential Oil
Directions
1.Mix the ingredients together in a food processor or a blender.
2.Add a few drops of warm water in order to make it into a paste.
3.Apply a generous amount to the face and allow it to dry for about ten minutes.
4.Rinse with a warm washcloth.
Note: You can find the Bentonite, apricot kernel oil, and palmarosa oil at most health stores or organic grocery stores.
3 – Turmeric, Gram Flour, Lemon Juice and Milk Facial Mask For Oily Skin
Not only is turmeric great for removing the excessive oil from acne prone skin, it also is a natural antibacterial that will help keep acne from spreading or coming back.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. Gram Flour
- 1 Tbsp. Turmeric
- 1 tsp. Lemon Juice
- 3 Tbsp. Milk and Water
Directions
1.Mix the dry ingredients together in a small bowl.
2.Place in the wet ingredients until you have a firm paste and apply this to your skin.
3.Allow to sit for twenty minutes, or until dry, and then rinse off with warm or cool water.
Note: This is also a natural exfoliate for skin prone to flakes or peels and will get rid of dead skin cells from the face.
Caution: The turmeric is prone to staining fair skin, so only those with bronze or darker skin should use turmeric on their skin.
4 – Oat Bran Mask for Dry Skin
Oat bran is very easy to come by and most people already have it in their pantries, so that’s definitely a plus! It’s also a very gentle exfoliate. If you want to use the honey in order to help with blemishes, try using raw honey instead. Mix up this mask fresh for each use as the honey mixed with the yogurt can mold if left unrefrigerated.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. Oat Bran
- 1 Tbsp. Yogurt
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- 1 tsp. Olive Oil
- ⅛ tsp. Bee Pollen
Directions
1.Combine all of the ingredients together in a small bowl or dish.
2.Apply it to your skin and allow it to dry for ten minutes, or longer if you applied it on thick.
3.Rinse with warm or cool water and pat dry with a towel.
