Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban’s Former Home Is A Tennessee Gem

Singer Keith Urban and actress Nicole Kidman purchased their gorgeous Tennessee home in 2007, right before the housing crash. After lingering on the market for two years, the home finally has sold for $2.7 million, far below their original asking price. But don’t worry, the couple still made a quarter million off the home (and they have four other estates).

Money aside, the 5,000+ square foot home is perfect for anyone who loves nature. The home is nestled in a forest and filled with giant windows. Only 30 minutes south of Nashville, it offers the best of urban and country living. After looking at these photos, it’s a shock that the estate didn’t sell sooner.

Tucked Away In The Woods

A picture of the estate from a distance shows grass, trees, a large carport, and a long driveway

This country hideaway is tucked under lots of Tennessee trees. Unlike urban living, the neighbors’ homes aren’t even in eyes view. A long driveway is met with a carport suitable for multiple cars. White wood meets brick on the house’s exterior, offering a rustic but elegant look.

An expansive grassy space big enough for a football field rests beside the house. Perfect for parties, Nicole and Keith could have had a red carpet event while they were living here. Not only would there be ample room, but the noise would travel into the surrounding forest, rather than into the ears of neighbors.

A Space Ideal For Lovers Of The Great Outdoors

A long kitchen looks on to a breakfast nook surrounded by glass windows.

This main-level kitchen and breakfast nook create a convenient space for homeowners to enjoy their meal in nature. An exterior door off the kitchen is uncommon, but clever for summertime entertainers. Outdoor barbecues are made practical when food can be stored and easily accessed indoors, and away from bugs, while guests enjoy the outdoor space.

A modest table is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, giving the illusion of being outside on days when the weather won’t permit outdoor eating. Detailed molding around the windows adds elegance to match the natural beauty of the outdoors.

A Relaxing Space That Encourages Spending Time Together

A large living space offers plenty of seating and light

The first of many gathering spaces, this serene area emphasizes quality time together. The family room breaks the decorating convention that says televisions should be the focal point. Instead, a large sectional faces opposite an ottoman that doubles as seating and storage.

Built-in shelving complements the detailing in the walls. A unique architectural choice was made to have protruding ceiling space below the ceiling itself, creating a gap where recessed lighting can offer a warm glow when the sun goes down.

An Open-Concept Living Space

The formal living room is separated from a bonus space visible beyond a partition

This living room space is large enough to comfortably hold a party. A built-in space for the flatscreen television makes it flush with the fireplace below. Guests can enjoy both of these elements from the long couch. Dark hardwood floors compliment the textured wall piece behind the couch.

Contrasting soft, light colors in the furniture, and walls with deep wood add to an earthy feel inside the house. Vaulted ceilings are underscored by sophisticated hanging lights that are simple enough not to steal the show. Though the windows are distant from the room, the open concept allows natural light to filter throughout the space.

No Need For Curtains

The bonus space off the living room showcases high ceilings, windows and skylights, a piano and sitting space

One impressive thing about this home’s architecture is the use of the gorgeous surrounding nature. Tall windows line the walls and ceilings in many of the rooms. Being secluded from other homes, the windows don’t need privacy from the outside world.

Instead, trees create a natural barrier, enabling windows to bring in all of the natural light. This makes the indoor space feel as close to being in the woods as possible. This living space has been utilized as a music room, likely because of how open to nature it is. Artists who are inspired by nature would love this space.

A Breathable Hallway

A hallway leading from the living room to the master suite is lined with giant windows

Remember this hallway with the horse photograph from the second level living room? It leads to what was Keith and Nicole’s master bedroom. But before we get there, it’s worth appreciating the wall-to-floor windows on either side of the hallway.

Most hallways feel narrow, but this space is completely opened up by the visual of outdoor space that is only a glass pane away. The visible brick outdoors brings the rustic exterior in, and plays with the color scheme in the long rug. Thin-barred railings contribute to the open feel of the space.

A More Intimate Living Space

A large seating area leads into the master bedroom

Before getting to the master bedroom, a large seating area acts like an introduction to the more intimate space within. Nicole and Keith would have been able to enjoy television or unwind away from their sleeping space, and also away from the kids in the living room.

Mint green walls pick up on the green tree leaves that peek through the windows. The soft but deep purple furniture grounds the space and adds depth. Thick, taupe curtains can be drawn on those days when all there is to do is sleep or relax.

A Master Fit For A King

The master bedroom has ample space, tones of windows, and a balcony

A master bedroom easily fits a king-sized bed with a bed frame. The dark brown lines of the curtain rods and bed frame outline the airy space. The room is large enough to easily accommodate additional seating, though the seating room prior to this space makes that unnecessary. Even so, cheetah printed ottomans offer a space to sit and gaze out at the gorgeous view while also adding character to the room’s design.

Large nightstands offer ample space for books, lamps, tissues, or anything else you’d like to access from bed. An extra-wide glass door leads out to a balcony space where you can get some fresh air upon waking up.

You Could Skate In That Bathroom

The master bathroom is long and expansive with two sinks and a tub lining one side

His-and-hers sinks are separated by a large built-in tub. Above each sink, the walls are covered with large mirrors that further open up this already expansive space. Tile flooring adds to the neutral color scheme while offering a touch of texture.

Windows over the tub include pulldown blinds for added privacy. Recess lighting offers a soft tone that both illuminates and flatters. Granite countertops an to the earthy feel of the home. A shower is visible in the mirror closest to the entrance, and is lined with tile to match the bathroom’s subtle but classy design.

Built-Ins For Days

Shelving adorns every space in this huge closet, which leads to another closet beyond

Not only is this walk-in closet the size of two master bedrooms, it also is flooded with shelving. Varied shelves, drawers, and rods accomodate any kind of clothing. A clean, white canvas creates an ideal base for various patterned shoes, purses, and outfits to fill the space.

A natural partition between the former and latter areas suggest a space for him and her. Particularly for Hollywood stars, having a place to store enough designer clothes to accomadate a new look every day is vital. A floor vent in the farther room prevents damaging humidity from creeping into the large closet.

A Versatile Bonus Room

A simple styled office features a desk, couch, and small coffee table

This simple room has many functions. It could be a space to read a book or to get some work done. Perhaps Nicole memorized her lines in here. Ample lighting throughout plays on the walls. A smooth carpet complements the soothing, neutral tones. A large window has both bilnds and curtains so natural light can filter in to the occupant’s desire.

Just below the window is an air-conditioning unit, which suggests that this space is not connected to the original HVAC. One possibility is that the room was built-on later. Additionally, that square in the ceiling might open up, offering more storage.

Now That’s Creative Architecture

A study space features an alcove, bookshelf, and desk

Back upstairs, an office breaks tradition with unusual architecture in all directions. Rather than trying to get work done between four sterile walls, this room offers a stimulating design that plays with light and angles. An alcove with skylighting is a perfect spot to use as a reading nook.

Built-in shelving offers plenty of space to store books. Crown molding meets a square cutout in the ceiling that lifts the room and prevents it from feeling cramped. A desk is placed along a wall so work can be done directly in front of the beautiful surrounding nature.

Another Spacious Bedroom

A guest suite fits large bedroom furniture and leads to a window with vivid trees beyond

The first thing that stands out about this room is its depth. Don’t let the placement of the furniture fool you; there’s still a good chunk of space beyond the bed and before the window. Yogis could literally roll out of bed and set up their morning routine right in front of swaying trees.

Thick curtains are likely more for light control than for privacy, being that the only thing peeking into the room are treetops. A ceiling fan helps keep the room cool and fresh feeling even in hot summer days.

A Simple But Elegant Guest Bathroom

A white bathroom shows a corner shower stall and simple vanity

A simple shower stall offers a place for guests to rinse off. Additionally, a towel rack is conveniently located on the shower’s adjoining wall. Through the mirror, a door with frosted glass can be seen, which acts as a partition between the toilet and the rest of the area.

A small window allows ventilation while maintaining adequate privacy. Lighting above the mirror gives the effect of a vanity above the sink. Below, ample storage space exists behind clean, white cabinet doors that match the bathroom’s pristine look.

No Adults Allowed

A children's room diverts from the typical four walls with an alcove, storage, and elevated ceiling

Remember building forts as a kid? This kids’ corner gives a similar feel due to its creative architecture. A modern but fun chandelier is underscored by an avant-garde ceiling design. The cutout nook is perfect for a child to sleep in under the stars, and even has stairs sized for little children.

Built-in cabinetry allows clothes and toys to be easily stored and accessed. A large window opposite the bed lets natural light enter the room.

These Ceiling Windows Are Jaw-Dropping

Ceiling windows allow a view of tree canopies above a well-equipped bathroom

Can you image spending bathtime under these giant ceiling windows? This bathroom embodies the outdoor-indoor feel present throughout the house. A stark white design with wooden accents and silver finishes put a modern spin on a natural design.

The mirror is placed before consecutive doors, highlighting the ample space of the home while making the bathroom feel larger. A bedroom off of the kids’ corner is visible in the reflection, an ideal space for parents to stay near their kids while visiting. Another option would be to turn the kids’ corner into yet another office, close to both a bathroom and a bedroom.

No Need For A Gym Membership

A large gym is showcased with various equipment and machines

Down on the bottom floor is this expansive gym room. The space is large enough to fit all of the gym equipment needed for a prime workout. A ceiling fan keeps the air circulating, while a glass door can be opened to bring in fresh air.

A floor-to-ceiling mirror opposite the glass door not only gives occupants the ability to check their form, but also reflects the gorgeous scenery outside. A bathroom in the far right corner is easily accessible during a workout.

A Perfect Place To Work

An office space shares a windowed wall with the gym and is surrounded by windows facing the surrounding greenery

Directly off the gym space is this workroom. His and hers desks are likely where Nicole and Keith set up their workstations. Both office spaces face out to green pastures. A long sofa offers a space to take a quick break from work and comfortably enjoy the view.

A glass door encourages occupants to go on a nature walk when it’s time to clear the mind. Ceiling vents maintain a cool climate even when sunlight pours in through the windows.

A Charming Cottage Is Also Included

The brick exterior of the home's rear faces a white cottage

On the opposite side of that beautiful office space, you have this grassy area where kids could play while the parents work. The white cottage beyond could be a caretaker’s unit. Alternatively, the space could act as an extension of the home and be transformed into a studio of some kind.

Another option for the bonus home could be an extremely private guest space. Particularly for aging parents or other relatives who plan on staying long-term, it can be ideal to have a separate but nearby area for visitors.

Estate Aside, Look At All The Land

An aerial view shows the property and its surrounding 36 acres of land

The house also includes a whopping 36 acres of land. Not only do you get to gaze out at nature from inside the home, but you also get to think to yourself that it’s all yours. The land could be transformed into gardens, or simply remain as a lush forest with grassy expanses.

However the land is utilized, it allows for huge events that most homes would not be able to accommodate. Better yet, animal lovers could house horses, chickens, cows — whatever pets they wanted.

A Record-Setting Driveway

A long driveway traces the forest trees leading to the Tennessee home

This driveway could probably set a record for how long it is. Though it may not pass all of the requirements to count as an official road, it certain looks long enough to be a street of its own. Way down in the distance, you can barely see a fragment of the white carport in front of the home.

The advantage of the driveway isn’t just the privacy; it also allows for a lot of parking space. Rather than parking tandem, guests could simply pull off into the grass if they needed.

The Charming House Is Misleading

The front of the home boasts exposed brick and white trimmings

Looking at the front of the home, you probably wouldn’t guess that there are over 5,000 square feet behind those glass doors. The charming bungalow has a cottage feel that prevents it from seeming at all gaudy. Instead, the house feels welcoming from the moment guests pull up to it.

If it weren’t for the 36 surrounding acres, this home would feel like it was on a well-kept street in the suburbs. The modest front yard adds to the unintimidating feel.

The Home Fits Right Into The Landscape

A path along the side of the home shows vines along the building

Vines lace the side of the building, offering a natural aesthetic without seeming too unkempt. The broad, cemented path leads out and into the land. Doors on the side of the house offer access to the land from the gym and from the dual office, enabling occupants to conveniently step outside for a breath of fresh air.

A fence in the distance denotes property limits and acts as a boundary for children when they’re playing outside.

Now That’s A Yard

An aerial view shows the home and its surrounding grassy field

This would be any pets’ paradise. The yard follows an L-shape the back and side of the house and extends out into the forest and along the driveway. Dogs and other animals can run or graze freely, while children can play in a huge space without leaving the property.

Windows in the home overlook the expansive land on which it sits, creating a sense of tranquility and privacy. An ideal land to garden in, the space can accommodate any hobby or craft that the homeowners enjoy.

Just 30 Minutes From The Tennessee Country Home

An aerial view shows a giant Nashville mansion, pool, and tennis court

This Nashville home is a 30 minute drive from the country house we just looked at. While the house may not have the same amount of land, this one does offer a large swimming pool and even larger tennis court.

On top of that, the mansion is more than double the square footage of the country house, offering a jaw-dropping 11,000 square feet. Complete with seven bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms, the place could house a village.

Next Stop, Australia

Nicole Kidman is pictured sitting on the steps leading to her Australia home

Their Australian home offers a large front porch with cement stairs that look both rustic and classic. The front door is surrounded by frosted glass and sits between two large windows. Like Nicole and Keith’s former Tennessee home, this one emphasizes a neutral color palate.

Shrubbery adds deep green to the otherwise light home, creating contrast and a sense of the home being a part of the surrounding nature. The door’s wooden frame adds a grander touch to the farmhouse.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Nicole shows off her billiard room, which features a pool table

As soon as you enter the farmhouse, a billiard room sits to the right of the foyer. A large pool table is illuminated by a simple, green hanging light. It isn’t often that you see a pool table so near to a home’s front entrance.

For A-list celebrities, it can be convenient to have as many amenities available on their private property as possible so as to enjoy their favorite hobbies without having to go out and deal with paparazzi.

A Classic Study

Nicole sits on the leather couch in her Australian home's study

Nicole looks like a real boss sitting on her leather couch with pursed lips. Built-ins the color of rich wood give a classic feel to this study. Books line the walls and glisten in the incoming window light. The room acts as a small library, offering tons of leather-bound books, many of which appear to be a part of a series of volumes.

Directly off the study is a formal dining room table, and from there we are lead into the bright living room.

A Familiar-Looking Living Space

Nicole sits on a couch in the living room of her Australian home in front of a black piano and fireplace

Similar to the bonus space in the country house, this room offers large windows, cream-colored furniture, and a black grand piano. Additionally, this room has a fireplace which only adds to the homey feel.

It isn’t hard to imagine Keith and Nicole hosting incredible holiday parties in this space. Everyone would be gathered around, warmed by the fire, while Keith accompanies singing guests on the piano. The windows also look out to the impressive acres of farmland.

All About The Farm Life

Nicole stands outside before green feilds and cattle

This 111-acre farm makes the measly 36-acres of their former Tennessee house comparatively itty bitty. Such an impressive space enables Nicole to keep these Angus cows, shown grazing on the land behind her.

Nicole tells Vogue that she loves the peace of farm life. As a Hollywood star who has to spend much of her time in urban settings, it must be nice to escape to a quiet and open space where only the wind can be heard.

A Well-Lit Dining Room

Nicole walks towards a bright dining room with a long, wooden table

Nicole leads the way through her kitchen and into the dining room. The space has glass doors on either side, allowing light into the room and offering a beautiful view of the outdoors to dining guests.

The open concept allows guests to fill their plates with second servings without missing a beat of the conversation. A fireplace embellished with surrounding wall detailing sits at the head of the table beside a children’s play kitchen — a smart idea to keep little ones occupied while the adults dine and converse.

A Separate Backyard

Nicole walks past an outdoor living space and towards a small cottage

A backyard complete with an outdoor living space offers a place for occupants to enjoy the nature without feeling like they are way out in farmland. A large grassy space is perfect for kids to play games in while staying a safe distance from the cattle out back.

A large outdoor table offers additional seating parallel to the indoor dining room table. Not only can it double the number of diners who have a space to sit, but they also can choose if they prefer indoor or outdoor seating.

An Adorable Cottage

Nicole enters her backyard cottage

Off the backyard is a small cottage ideal for families staying the night or guests staying for an extended amount of time. The space offers exposed brick that’s been painted white to open up the cozy space.

A bookshelf frames the dining table, which sits in front of a small fireplace. A living room complete with a flatscreen television and a private bedroom are other additions to the cottage. Its location near the home offers guests privacy without making them feel stranded.

Guests Don’t Have To Enter The Home Through The Night

Nicole grabs a fruit basket from the cottage's kitchenette

A kitchenette off the cottage’s dining space offers a two-piece gas stove. A kennel, toaster, can opener, and microwave all make it possible for guests to make their own meals without imposing on the primary kitchen space.

A sink and cabinets provide storage space for dishware so that guests don’t need to rely on paper goods. A simple window fills the kitchen space with light while offering a view of the grassy field outside.

Tons Of Storage

Nicole smile while leaning on a fence before a massive shed

A massive shed offers ample storage for all the needs of farm life. The tractor in the background suggests that Keith and Nicole either do some of the upkeep themselves or have the necessary tools so that hired help have access to all that they need on location.

The space could alternatively be made into a stable for horses and other farm animals. Located near the cattle fencing, the shed enables all necessary tools and supplies to remain nearby.

From Farmland To Urban Australia

A large living space on the top floor of a skyscraper overlooks the Sydney Harbor Bridge

Kidman and Urban bought this penthouse overlooking the Sydney Harbor Bridge a decade ago, followed by another penthouse in the same building to extend the giant home. Because that wasn’t enough, they threw in a smaller apartment downstairs which they use as an office.

Altogether the space cost about 11 million dollars, but with that view it must be worth it. The luxury building also offers a pool, gym, and sauna for residents to utilize.

Windows On Top Of Windows

Floor to ceiling windows showcase the Manhattan view from the living room and upstairs

Jaw-dropping city views appear from the first and second floor of this Manhattan home. The penthouse takes the phrase “open-concept” to another level with a living room with a ceiling that extends up to the second-floor ceiling. Windows grace the giant walls that surrounding the space, offering incredible views from the stair railings.

A swinging twin bed makes you feel like you’re dangling next to city views, while a sectional provides ample seating space. Incredibly long, gorgeous sheer curtains create mood lighting and extend privacy to the space.

An Elegant Urban Dining Space

An open dining room-kitchen combination rests beside floor to ceiling windows

This space is a mashup of varying design elements that work together like magic. The wooden dining room table and bar stools remind of the country lifestyle Nicole loves so much. Meanwhile, one, two, THREE chandeliers add a dainty, Victorian touch to the space.

Metal and stainless steal details give a modern feel to the urban space that does service to the overall design. The large island adds much needed counterspace to the kitchen, while the large windows flood the area with light.

A Car Elevator?!

The doors of a wide elevator open while a parked car sits before it

That’s right. Not only does this impressive New York apartment boast 23-foot windows, more than 3,000 square feet (which in Manhattan might as well be a million square feet), two terraces, and three bedrooms, but it also will bring your car off the street and straight to you.

While a country house would never need a car elevator, this is highly desirable in an urban spot as populated as Manhattan. Not only is parking difficult, but cars are also more likely to be broken into there.

Sleeping In The Clouds

Keith and Nicole's master bedroom overlooks the city

Keith and Nicole’s master bedroom has a floating flatscreen television beside large windows that show the city below. Long drapes hang from the ceiling for days when the couple wishes to sleep in.

In addition to their wall-to-ceiling windows, wall to ceiling cabinetry provides ideal storage space. Further, a mocha-colored dresser blends into the deep, hard wood floors. A neutral color palate is underscored by the shag carpet and plush bedding. A modern white chair and reading light offer a place to lounge and enjoy the view.
