Most washing machines offer multiple wash cycles. Among them we find a quick or express program, the main advantage of which is washing clothes in record time. While this may save you time, this option is not necessarily the most cost effective. We explain why in this article.
The washing machine is one of the most used household appliances in the home. With its increasingly innovative features, it ensures clean and fresh laundry after every wash. However, some programs may not be suitable and cause permanent damage to the laundry. This is especially true for fast mode.
Why is it not recommended to use the quick wash program?
Depending on the model of the washing machine, the quick program takes from fifteen minutes to an hour. It includes wash, rinse and spin cycles and is more suitable for small amounts of laundry. However, this express feature can come with certain downsides… not least!
The quick program does not guarantee the cleanliness of the laundry.
The fast program of the washing machine does not always guarantee the cleanliness of the laundry, especially when it is very dirty. Some stubborn stains are difficult to remove with such a short wash time and low temperature. Indeed, this 35°C setting does not allow you to sanitize certain items such as sheets, underwear, towels, bedsheets or baby bodysuits that require a minimum temperature of 60°C. Also, these fabrics may take longer to wash for bacteria and dust mites to completely disappear. Therefore, it is recommended to use it on a half-load machine.
Fast program consumes more power
Fast mode makes the washing machine more energy intensive. After all, due to the inclusion of the latter, the heating element of the machine is intensively used. This will require more energy to heat the water faster. This leads to an increase in its energy consumption. If you want to save money, you can set the economy mode of your household appliance. This allows you to gradually heat the water. The washing time is increased, which also makes it possible to compensate for the low washing temperature.
The quick program is not suitable for all fabrics.
Although they are universal, the quick programs are not suitable for all fabrics. Some fabrics do need special treatment. By selecting this express wash, the laundry can be easily damaged. This is the case, for example, with some delicate fabrics such as wool, silk or lace that require special care. They require a delicate wash, which is not compatible with this type of short programme. Before starting the washing machine, feel free to sort your clothes according to the laundry label. This will give you a detailed indication of the program to select.
As you already understood, the quick program of the washing machine certainly saves time and refreshes lightly soiled laundry. But it is not effective when fully loaded and should never replace a standard wash.
